STORYLINE
ACTRESS MAGGIE Q’S VIDEO ACTION ROLE
Actress Maggie Q joined Electronic Arts Inc. in Hong Kong on Tuesday (14 October 2008) to promote the launch of the company’s latest game – ‘Need for Speed Undercover.’
The actress has her own character in the online game, which is EA’s attempt to boost its limited presence in Asia.
No stranger to the action genre, Maggie Q kicked off her acting career in Hong Kong action films ‘Gen-Y Cops’ and ‘Naked Weapon’.
Her performance and unique Eurasian looks also attracted Hollywood’s attention and she’s since starred in Hollywood blockbusters ‘Mission: Impossible III’ and the fourth instalment in the ‘Die Hard’ series.
But speaking to journalists at a press conference, the American born actress said making the video game wasn’t actually too dissimilar to making movies.
“You know the process of filming this and making this character was, I mean was pretty much like making a film,” she said at a news conference.
“I have to say I’ve worked a lot of guys on big films, it was like a movie set. So we took this other world and it’s kind of cut into the game. So it’s actual people.”
The new action racing game is directed by Joseph A Hodges and Q attended the press conference with other EA officials.
“It’s the normal challenge of creating any character. So it’s something I am very used to,” Q said.
The actress, whose full name is Maggie Denise Quigley, next set to star in a new movie called ‘The Warrior and the Wolf,’ and used the opportunity to talk about the up-and-coming film.
“I work with a director called Tian Zhuangzhuang and he’s one of top directors in China, wonderful, art house film, love story, will be out next year,” she said.
The Hollywood trade publication Variety has described ‘The Warrior and the Wolf’ as “a combat epic about two warriors in ancient China.”
(Tian’s credits include ‘The Horse Thief,’ ‘The Blue Kite,’ ‘Springtime in a Small Town’ and ‘The Go Master.’)
EA’s main business in the West comes from packaged games software for consoles and personal computers, but online games are more popular in Asia.
The online version of ‘Need for Speed,’ which was developed in Singapore, will launch next year.
